Honestly this sucks, I’ve wasted the last 10 years of my adult life (thinking I was) being the cool kid that was above needing a TikTok and Instagram account. “That’s for them skibity toilets,” the retiree trapped in the body of a millennial told himself. I’m a golf coach, I don’t know what a blog is, I don’t share my thoughts or live on the internet…. I probably should, I’m 33, I was born in the 90’s, I’ve grown up with computers in the classroom and had a MySpace page like all my friend did in high school. Since then I’ve tried to avoid social media as much as I could, but I’m coming to learn that was to my own detriment. Starting my own teaching business over the past few weeks it’s pretty obvious for at least the past decade that social media is by far the easiest way to start, advertise and reach the most people. So here I am and off we go, fake it until you make it is probably going to be a mantra I lean on pretty heavily as I grow my online presence here in the near future (hopefully). I’ve always been told I was a pretty good writer, though, so hopefully I can manage this part.
I suppose what to expect here would be a good place to start, right? I’ve been a golf professional and given private lessons now for the better part of the last decade, since I graduated from the now defunct Golf Academy of America. Over that decade the one thing I told all of my students was to never, ever watch people like me online for their swing tips (whoops)…but truth be told, I still believe that starting my own online teaching business. I don’t have all the answers for everyone, nobody can put those into just one drill or video, and I as a golfer can’t say I know exactly what is wrong with my swing without a second pair of eyes and video proof of what my body is actually doing. That’s why the key part of what we offer here, in addition to maybe a silly blog post here and there, swing drills and tips and everything like that all organized in one place for everyone, is private 1 on 1 instruction and personal swing analyses. The most important part of getting better and improving your swing is making sure you know what your body is doing and what you need to improve your unique motion to hit better shots. If the golf professional you are watching can’t see your swing, there’s no way to guarantee you aren’t following along with instruction that you either can’t follow or is totally just not meant to work for you. I feel hypocritical a little with all of this, I’ll be posting videos that I want everyone to watch and share so I can grow and reach more golfers, but I don’t want anyone to follow along with those without someone telling them that it will help your unique swing motion and the way your body wants to naturally move the club. This might be hard, but I’m up for the challenge, I don’t think it’s right to do it any other way, I’m not promising that every video will make you a scratch golfer. What I am promising, what I do know works for everyone, is a private instructor who can see your swing and identify the root cause of your misses and what can make you better. If you partner that with the videos on the theory of the swing, I really think that’s a recipe that can make everyone a happier player on the course.
So please join me on this journey, and let me take you on a journey to playing better golf than you ever thought possible. How do you sign off on a blog post?
