Hello friends, it’s Chewsday, innit?! And that means we have another quick chipping tip. Today we’ll focus on how to use your wedge the way it was designed, how the way you set up and hold it can make the club much more or much less forgiving. Whether you want to hit it high or low, the ball is forward or back, you need to [set up with an open face in order to help] utilize the “bounce,” or the bottom of your golf club here. Your bounce hitting the ground instead of your leading edge will allow your club to slide through the turf, meaning if you don’t hit the ball perfectly right before the ground, you have a much higher chance of the club sliding into the golf ball for a near-perfect strike. This will really help add some forgiveness to your chips and pitch shots if it’s not something you already do. If you want to hit a low bump and run, you need to do that with the club itself. To hit that low chip, use a club designed with a lower loft, like a gap or pitching wedge, even a 9 or an 8 iron. Don’t turn your 60 degree into a butter knife by trying to turn it into a club that you already have in your bag. The game is hard enough as it is, things like that just make it harder.
