Hello friends, it’s Chippin’ Chewsday, innit? Why do we have so many clubs in our bag? Well, I like not having to hit my 4-iron from 230 yards all the way down to the green with different swings, so why are we doing that from 100 yards in when most of us are taking over half of our shots from? Next time you’re at the range, hit some short chips with your 60 degree, he shortest swing is your comfortable making. How far does that carry? 5, 10 feet? Doesn’t matter. The shortest swing length that you can take in time with similar consistency to your full swing, that’s your stock chip. Now your next highest lofted wedge, 56, 54, doesn’t matter. Same swing. Next wedge, same swing. And on through the bag. When you have short shots of different lengths without a massively elevated green, bunker, or hazard in your way, change the length of your shot with your club selection. The same way you control your full swing distances with your club selection, it’s so much easier to control your chips and pitches the same way.
