Hello friends, it’s Chipping Chewsday, innit? I promise as fun as it is, you don’t need to hit a flop shot every time you need a high, soft shot around the green. Your highest lofted club, whether that be a 56, 60 or higher, is designed to do all that work for you. All you need to do is a tiny bit of work in your setup, that loft can work even better with your stock swing. To hit a nice high pitch, take your 60 degree or whatever your highest lofted wedge, start with my feet together, rotate my club open and reset my grip, stand nice and close and a little taller, to make sure my toe’s down, use more of that bounce. All of my weight at the front of my stance, so I’ll just step my back foot back away one step and keep that weight forward. The most important part here to counteract that open face, toe down, forgiving setup, aim left, swing left. If anything, feel like you’re swinging out to in. A few keys I like to think about to make this shot easier, the feeling of stacking and maintaining that weight on my front foot and finishing my follow through higher than my backswing if I want to hit a high shot. Focusing on my follow through and keeping my weight forward both help me make sure I’m not hitting the ground first.
