Hello friends, it’s Chippin’ Chewsday, innit? Do you struggle hitting multiple inches behind the ball when you only need it to go a few yards? Then stay put, we have what you need right here. If this is something you struggle with, your chipping motion probably looks something like this. This is like so many I see, dragging the club low like a full swing, but doing this you’re really blocking yourself out immediately. If you don’t correct that, the ground comes into play very quickly. But if you watch the tour guys warm up, those swings look a lot more like trying to hit a slice. That’s what we should be trying to emulate if we want to correct those fat chips. It should almost feel like you’re trying to swipe across the ball with those shorter chips and pitches, keeping those hands and club in front of you on the takeaway, bringing that handle down as quickly as you can into your front pocket towards the target. A good drill for this one, just like we demonstrated in our last full swing video, chipping with your back to the target. Set up the same distance you’d be on a normal chip, force yourself into a place where you have to keep your hands out, cut them back down towards the golf ball, take that motion to your normal chip shots, and you can say goodbye to those fat chips for good. Be sure to like and subscribe for the next tip next Chewsday. We’ll see you on the course.
