Hello friends, it’s Chippin’ Chewsday, innit? If you’re someone who struggles hitting chip shots and pitches short enough, if you don’t use the bump and run, or maybe you only use your sand or gap wedge as your lowest loft around the green because everything else rolls out or shoots across the green, we have a great tip for you today. See, the bump and run is meant to mimic a long putt. It eliminates both your need to judge the spin your 60 degree might produce, and more importantly, that precise spot you need to land the ball, which makes those shots around the green a hundred times easier. Where I see most struggle is with the ball going too far, not able to take a short enough swing to use anything but another higher lofted wedge, that can all be fixed in the setup. If you use your putting grip with those extra short shots, you can take an even longer stroke with more arm and chest movement, making that shot a lot easier and go a lot shorter distance than a stroke with your wrists involved. You can use lower lofted clubs like a 9, 8, 7 irons, get that ball on the green, rolling quicker, spinning less, making those chip shots around the green a lot easier when the situation calls for it.
