Hello friends, it’s Chippin’ Chewsday, innit? In the words of Bob Vokey, designer of one of the best wedges year after year every one of the last 20 plus years, “If you give a lesson to a student using one of my wedges and they refuse to set up with the face open, you have my permission to take that wedge and whack them with it.” Obviously he was joking and I’d never strike most of my students, but his point was that you have to use the bounce of your wedge for it to work properly. Now your bounce, when we talk about it this way, simply means the sole or the bottom of your wedge here and the angle it was designed with. You aren’t setting up with your wedge face at least a degree or so open as your square face, you’re making that club much, much harder to use than the way it was designed. Especially if you’re someone who consistently struggles with thick wedge shots, hitting inches behind the ball on their short swings. Listen to the club designer. Use the wedge the way it’s meant to be played. Use the bounce. If you need a lower shot, you need a lower lofted club. Never, ever close that wedge face and take away your forgiveness when you don’t need to. Utilize the bounce if you want to make those shots around the green as easy as possible. I’m Coach Matt

Welcome to The Green Grass Golf Shop, your one-stop shop for all the most comprehensive golf instruction, swing drills, swing training aids and maybe a little golf content. My goal here is to let everyone in on the secret that most internet and Instagram golf pros don’t tell you, that the video you’re watching is not for everyone, and that nobody should be taking instruction from anyone who can’t see your swing and tell you what you need for your unique swing motion and body mechanics. This is why the most important part of what we offer here is 1-on-1 private video swing instruction, to help you make sure you’re practicing what you need to practice, only watching the videos and getting the help your unique body needs to play your best golf. Check us out with a free video swing analysis to see if virtual lessons are right for you!
